New collumn for the hiatus that was El Pato. It's good to be back
WRESTLEMANIA THOUGHTS
Big step up from last year, but then again, that isn't saying much. Last years Wrestlemania is considered the worst of them all, and I agree with the critics. I'll just go match by match for comments
I liked JBL VS Finlay. I don't know why, but as annoying as Hornswaggle is, he still makes Raw somewhat entertaining. When you see midgets wrestle, or do anything in the humor world, it is entertaining in my book. Finlay took some pretty hard bumps too, kudos to him for that.
The money in the bank match was SICK! Shelton Benjamin's drop off the ladder onto the ground was insane and I still want to know how he got up after that. I am a bit in awe that everyone stepped their game up in the match for more high risk stunts. Matt Hardy ruining MVP's chance was a good spot, though I am shocked that C.M. Punk got the briefcase. I really think they need to give the belt to Jericho right now, especially with the insubordination problems Punk has backstage, but oh well. Let's hope we see a nice title reign. Too bad Hardy fucked everything up to lose his shot.
Next was Batista VS Umaga. I still didn't understand why this match began in the first place. Brand supremacy? With one match? What the fuck? Batista can't work a match, period. The build-up was horrible, and I fell asleep during the match. It was that boring. nothing but filler.
Ric Flair VS Shawn Micheals was next. THis was Ric's last match, and for that it was emotional for me. The match itself though. total carry job by Micheals. Ric seemed to be having a heart attack in the middle of the match due to his age and inability to keep up with the showstopper. Good ending with Micheals stopping what he was doing to say he was sorry and he loved Ric. Not a bad match by anymeans and a good send off for the Nature Boy, but you could tell-it was time for his career to be over.
The Playboy Bunny match was interesting in the fact that it was just eye candy and a bathroom break. Snoop Dogg did get some good lines in though (his segment with Festus was hilarious).
Randy Orton VS John Cena VS Triple H was next. Not bad, but as far as Wrestlemania main events are concerned, not good either. Orton seemed to lack any psychology and Cena was doing the same bland offense as always. I was thinking H would take the belt but was wrong as Orton won. I never expected that, completly shocked by that but he really needed the rub. It wasn't a snorefest, but there wasn't anything special about it.
Big Show vs Mayweather was next. Crowd was totally behind Big Show the entire match despite him being the heel. For what it was, the bout was entertaining. Was it worth the 20 million Floyd Mayweather was paid? Hell no! Good booking by having Mayweather slam everything he could into the Big Show's skull to knock him out. Entertaining, but also a not needed match.
Edge VS the Undertaker closed the show. Not bad by recent Taker bouts, but not good either. Both of them using everything in their arsenal was a nice touch and I am completly shocked that Edge kicked out of the Tombstone. NO ONE HAS DONE THAT LATELY! Edge looked good and didn't need the rub of taking Takers losing streak so no hard feelings there.
Better than 23, slightly better than 22.
